UBTECH’s newly unveiled full-size humanoid robot U1 has drawn widespread attention, particularly the U1 Ultra (male version), which carries a price tag of RMB 990,000 ($146,000). However, its reported battery life of just two to four hours has sparked criticism from some who argue it is not enough to last through a night. In response, UBTECH said that a two to four-hour battery life is currently typical for full-size humanoid robots across the industry and that the U1’s endurance is in line with the industry standard. The company also said that the robot is positioned as an emotional companion, a direction it said is supported and recognized by Chinese authorities, rather than being marketed as a boyfriend, girlfriend, or romantic partner.
