The government of Spain’s Galicia region recently announced that China’s SAIC Motor will build its first electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Europe in the region. Speaking to the media, Galicia President Alfonso Rueda said the project will involve an initial investment of €200 million and is expected to create more than 2,300 local jobs. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the plant targeted to become operational by the end of 2028. The facility will be located in Ferrol, in the province of A Coruña. Once completed, it is expected to have an annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles. The project also includes the development of an industrial zone near the local port to support vehicle assembly and logistics operations.
