Hong Kong holds first large-scale drill at revamped Huanggang border crossing

About 1,000 civil servants joined exercise testing passenger flows and transport, with further tests planned before the new crossing opens Hong Kong has conducted its first large-scale drill at the revamped Huanggang border crossing, with authorities describing traffic flows at the facility as smooth. About 1,000 civil servants from more than 20 departments mobilised for Thursday’s drill. They were instructed to travel by public transport to the Hong Kong port area of the revamped Huanggang Port, enter the port building and leave by similar means. Authorities said the exercise aimed to assess the management of passenger and vehicular flows, passageway capacity, on-site guidance arrangements, traffic control and various supporting measures at the port building and its public transport interchange. Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung and transport minister Mable Chan inspected the drill and both expressed satisfaction with the arrangements. “The whole process was largely smooth and controllable, but we also identified some pain points. Some participants had said through on-site questionnaires that the signs were not clear enough, and the queuing flow could be improved,” Tang said.
