Huaneng engineers in Zhengzhou drilled a 2,500-meter well and circulated supercritical CO2 instead of water to extract geothermal heat, China's first commissioned closed-loop demonstration project. CO2 in at 8 degrees Celsius returns at 22 degrees, cutting pumping loss 10% and lifting heat-extraction capacity about 20%.
