The green power transactions of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region doubled to 16 billion kWh in the first half of 2026, and renewables now exceed 60% of the total capacity. A single project with 21,000 heliostats in Turpan's desert will cut 2 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. But solar panels produce no power after dark, so near Urumqi, China's largest standalone storage station, spanning 28 hectares with 730 battery containers, stores daytime surplus to discharge during peak demand periods at night.
